Silk Cocoon & Rod
Flower Quilt Postcard
Spread a small clump of Angelina out on a Teflon sheet or piece of parchment to cover about a 4x6” area
- Fold Teflon sheet over Angelina and iron flat for a few seconds with iron on wool setting with no steam
- Pull silk rods apart along the long cut side into thin layers and cut layers into almond-like leaf shapes.
- Place the Angelina sheet on top of your front quilt fabric. If you wish, sandwich a few silk rod leaf shapes between Angelina and front fabric. Pin together the quilt layers with the front fabric with the Angelina on top, the batting in the middle, and backing fabric at the back.
- Use embroidery floss to stem-stitch down the center of the silk rod leaf shapes.
- Cut a slit in silk cocoon at the opening
- Pry silk cocoon apart into two layers along the cut. If cocoon does not separate easily into layers, either cut a few more slits or soak cocoon in layers.
- Cut a total of six slits in each of the cocoon pieces and then shape the rays of the cocoon into petal shapes by rounding the edges or shaping into points.
- Stitch the cocoon flowers onto your quilt with French knots at the centers of the flowers.
- Stitch on more silk rod leaves with stem stitch through the centers of the leaves
- Finish off the quilt by blanket stitching around the edge of the quilt.
